Traditional Values - New Opportunities
Groton chamber awards the 2012 Farm Family of the Year Award.

The Groton Area Chamber of Commerce recently awarded the Clint & Kiersten Sombke family the Farm Family of the Year award for 2012. This is the first year the Chamber has sponsored the agriculture award. "We wanted to recognize the commitment and dedication of our local producers, to their land, animals and our communities. We were looking for a family that showed longevity and sustainability in agriculture, as well as a family that was committed to community involvement. We had an impressive group of qualified candidates. The judges had a tough job on their hands.", report Michelle Muilenburg, Chamber member.
The Sombke's have managed the family farm for 21 years, a farm which has been passed down from Clint's grandparents Alvin and Adeline Sombke, to his parents Larry and Sharon and now on to his family. Son's Wyatt and Brody also take on daily responsibilities on the family farm. The farm has been in the family since 1947. When asked about their operations, the Sombke's stated: "We care very much about taking good care of the animals that we raise and to provide an environment that is healthy. We have been so very blessed to be able to raise our children on a farm, where they have learned about caring for the land and animal husbandry. We will continue to live the blessing that is a farming life as long as we can."
